Let’s talk ai

In today’s world, as a designer, I cannot ignore AI. It is already changing the way we work and we are only beginning to see its potential. On this page, I would like to share my point of view, experiences and experiments with AI in design.

My First Encounter with AI

My first encounter with AI was at Adobe MAX 2018, where Adobe Firefly’s prototype could remove a background pole from a moving shot in Adobe Premiere in just seconds. I would have masked and brushed it frame by frame, 24 frames per second, which could take hours. As much as I enjoy Photoshop, that wouldn’t have been a fun day. From that moment, I was convinced of AI’s potential.

First generation of ai Image generation

In 2022, I started experimenting heavily with AI. That year marked the rise of AI image generators. I explored tools like Jasper.io and MidJourney, learning how to generate images through precise prompting.

Having worked extensively with stock imagery, I was amazed that I could now generate unique, branded visuals exactly as I envisioned. I even began to think about creating brand guidelines for AI prompts to maintain consistency. In early 2023, ChatGPT launched, and the AI landscape changed overnight.

brand design using ai

In 2023, I had the first opportunity to use AI for a client. I created a branding project supported by AI. Using branded AI prompts, I generated futuristic visuals in matter of minutes that I could never have created myself. The initial reactions were enthusiastic, and the project received praise.

However, AI’s style evolves quickly. Within a few months, the futuristic imagery already looked outdated and lost some of its uniqueness. I realized that AI is a powerful tool but not a magic wand.

Experimenting with AI User Testing

Testing designs with real people is invaluable, but often too expensive. I experimented with creating my own AI user testing panel, using AI personas to simulate feedback during discovery and design.

In practice, the AI “users” often hallucinated features, gave predictable responses, or were one-dimensional. For example, if the persona was a young marketing professional, she would only focus on whether designs were “snappy and creative.” Despite its limitations, this method helped me gain early insights and iterate on ideas faster.

ai prototyping

Traditionally, testing starts with wireframes and low-fidelity prototypes. Low-fi prototypes often make it hard for testers to visualize the end product, while high-fidelity prototypes take too long to create.

AI prototyping tools are exciting because they allow me to generate interactive, realistic prototypes from prompts. This approach makes it possible for testers to experience a working product quickly without the long wait required for manual high-fidelity builds.

Accelerating Concepts with AI

I believe digital product ideas must be tested as quickly as possible to determine if they are viable or just assumptions. Using AI, I can go from discovery to validated prototype in two weeks.

The process starts with a discovery session with the client, discussing vision, audience, journey maps, and user personas. From there, I generate interactive prototypes using AI tools and test them with real users to validate assumptions. This rapid cycle allows for faster iteration and more confident decisions.

MY Reflections on AI Today

AI is reshaping the design process in ways we are only beginning to understand, but it does not replace human creativity. For me, the most useful AI tools are in applications like Figma and Photoshop, where AI can save hours with tasks like enlarging backgrounds, or organizing layers efficiently.

From early-stage whiteboard ideas to functional prototypes, AI accelerates the workflow and allows me to explore concepts faster. AI works best as a sparring partner rather than a replacement. For example, most of the heavy lifting and writing for this portfolio was done by me, while AI helped with spelling corrections and constructive feedback. It enhances my process without taking over the creative decisions that make the work uniquely mine.
